The Speech of Prof. Sheikh Salim Alwan at the  Mawlid Concert 2019.

We praise Allah, we thank Him, the one who is clear from the attributes of forms and shapes, bodies, directions and localities. And may Allah add onto the honour of prophet Muhammad and may peace be on all his brothers, all the prophets and messengers of Allah and may Allah protect his nation, his companions and his kin.

Thereafter dear attendees, Allah said in the Quran, in reference to Prophet Muhammad, which means “Verily, we have sent you as mercy to mankind.” Allah sent all the messengers from Adam to Muhammad carrying the only one message of the religion of Islam, which is also the religion of all the angels.

What a great feat and victory for the one who embraces this great religion, because it is the religion of justice and moderation, a religion of mercy and guidance, a religion that fights off violence and lewd extremism. On this note, Darulfatwa Australia this year issued two media release condemning the heinous acts committed in New Zealand where 51 innocent Muslims lives were lost on the hands of evil only to followed by another attack in Sri Lanka a month later. Sadly, as lately as last Wednesday 20 November, we witnessed another criminal act in Sydney’s Paramatta, fuelled by racism and discrimination against Muslims. A 38-week pregnant Muslim woman, wearing her hijab, minding her business and having coffee with her friends in public, was violently attacked and the attacker stomped on her head for being just that, a Muslim with a hijab. I

stand here before denouncing all terrorist groups regardless of their affiliations, and I call upon you to join me in the fight against extremism and in the education of people against islamophobia.

Dear friends, here we are gathered today to celebrate in harmony the occasion of commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. All Muslims around the world get together on such a blessed occasion to celebrate in bliss and happiness the memory of the birth of the prophet and to thank the Lord for the arrival of such great endowment to the world. This celebration is in line with the authentic, strongly validated hadith where the prophet peace be upon him said, “Those who innovate in Islam a new, good trait then they will receive its reward and a

reward similar to those who follow in performing it”. How can we not get together on such a blessed occasion when he is the best delivered human being to the world, when he is the one who has been sent as a mercy to humanity and the one who has shown us the way to empathy and care towards others, to well-wish the Muslims and non-Muslims alike. How can we not celebrate the memory of his birth when we know that Allah the Almighty has made him the most blessed of all the creations. How can we not celebrate the memory of his birth when he is the one who taught us to seek his blessings and to supplicate Allah by him, during his life and after his passing. In fact, some of his relics are still available today in many various countries. These relics have been handed down from generation to generation through authentic chains, similar to the manner through which we have been delivered his sayings, through authentic chains.

The one who truly is longing and yearning to the prophet, peace be upon him, will have a burning fire within for wanting to see any of his relics, and would be asking Allah for the blessings of such relic when he lays eyes on it.

Dear friends, I ask Allah that we may all witness many returns to this blessed occasion in peace, health and safety.
