The Biography of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: A Way of Life

Allah, the Exalted, said:

(لَقَدْ جَآءكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَؤُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ)
[This means] [There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you, and to the believers he is compassionate and merciful.” (Surah At-Tawbah 9:128).

Our noble Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the chosen one from the chosen of the chosen. He is the light of this world and beyond.

The path of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has remained radiant through the centuries, illuminating the way for seekers of guidance, and serving as a shining beacon for those searching for light to escape the darkness of ignorance. Yet, many people have strayed, leading to the disintegration of families, the fragmentation of societies, the spread of immorality, and the rise of enmity—even among members of the same household—because of neglecting the implementation of the way of Muhammad ﷺ as it ought to be.

While many youths aspire to emulate certain individuals—some of whom may be corrupt sinners or even disbelievers—it is more befitting for them to follow in the footsteps of the Most Honoured by the Lord of the Worlds, our Master Muhammad ﷺ. His way is the path of peace and rectitude, leading to a life filled with obedience to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

As the days pass and the years roll on, the glory of our Master Muhammad ﷺ is renewed, while the fame of others fades with time. The Ummah never forgets his virtue. Many names are lost in the passage of time, but the name of Muhammad ﷺ only shines brighter. And whenever trials befall us and calamities shake us, we ask Allah by the rank of our Master Muhammad ﷺ.

How direly we need, in this age, to call for the implementation of the way of our Master Muhammad ﷺ—to affirm again and again, in both words and deeds, that his biography is truly a way of life. This noble path is the key to happiness in both worlds.

O people, hold fast to the way of your Prophet, follow him, be guided by his light, and teach his Seerah to your families, children, grandchildren, and neighbours. For Allah, the Exalted, has made obedience to Muhammad ﷺ obedience to Himself.  Verse 80 of Surah An-Nisa means: [Whoever obeys the Messenger has indeed obeyed Allah].

Teach them that whoever strives upon the path of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will be among those upon whom Allah bestowed His favour—the Prophets, the highly-ranked, the martyrs, and the righteous. What an excellent company are they! The more one strives in the goodness that Muhammad ﷺ brought, the higher he ascends in ranks until he becomes among the Awliya of Allah.

Teach them that the way of Muhammad ﷺ is security for the fearful, guidance for the confused, and the means of safety on the Day of Resurrection.

Muhammad ﷺ is the greatest of the great, the master of all masters, and the Imam of every Imam. O believers, our role model is Muhammad ﷺ—the one of whom Allah said:

(وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ)

[This means] [And indeed, you are of a great moral character]. (Surah Al-Qalam 68:4).
And he ﷺ said of himself: “I was sent to perfect noble character.” (Reported by al-Bayhaqiyy).

So, in your dealings with your loved ones, follow Muhammad ﷺ. In your dealings with your opponents, follow Muhammad ﷺ. In your workplace—whether with colleagues, superiors, subordinates, or neighbours— follow Muhammad ﷺ.

O Brothers in Faith

Whoever reflects upon the Seerah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finds that his Companions preserved for us his words, his eating and drinking, his walking and sitting. They preserved for us when he slept, when he awoke, when he stood, and when he fasted. They preserved how he taught, whom he taught, and when he taught.

They recorded his traits—both physical and moral—telling us of his humility, gentleness, compassion, dignity, and excellence. They described his majestic bearing, his radiant appearance, his captivating beauty, and his smile that revealed teeth more dazzling than shining pearls. They described his hair, eyes, eyebrows, eyelashes, nose, mouth, beard, chest, and limbs with such precision that it is as though one sees him ﷺ before one’s eyes. If hearing his description overwhelms the heart, what then of those who actually beheld him? Hearing is never like seeing.

Indeed, whoever follows the Seerah of this great, majestic, and perfected man with full devotion attains the highest honour and perfects his faith. Whoever falls short in this regard—may Allah protect us from being among them—his deficiency will be according to how much he neglects.

The Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ is truly a way of life. It is followed only by those whose hearts Allah has illuminated and guided. And Allah is the One who grants success.
