Dear brothers, why do we commemorate the Birth of our Master Muhammad, may Allah raise his rank and protect his nation from that which he fears for it. This is our topic for today.

In the month of your Birth, O Messenger of Allah, we are reminded of your greatness, your virtue upon us, your exemplary conduct and the beauty with which you have been described. When the eulogists praise you and mention your name, our earnest desire for your closeness and sadness in longing for you overwhelm us, as if our self is saying, ‘O how I wish I can meet you’. Even if it is to see you glance at me in my dream.

We love you O Messenger of Allah so much. And on the day that we commemorate your Birth we also teach our children to love you as much.

We love you O Messenger of Allah and we commemorate your Birth.

You are the master of all men of humility. On this occasion we mention your high degree of humility and that you never used to avoid being gathered with the poor and needy, eating with them and visiting them in their homes.

In commemorating your Birth, we find a reason to emancipate this love for you throughout the generations so that all Muslims will become highly attached to you, to your beauty, your attributes, your character, your sayings, and to your example.

Commemorating your Birth also serves as a reminder to other matters. Among them are reminders of your name, your lineage, your Arabian heritage, and the names of your children.

In commemorating your Birth we learn and spread the knowledge surrounding the circumstances of your Birth, and about your physical description. Not just any description; but, the description of your image which, for the one who sees it in the dream, reveals good tidings and an easy passage to Paradise, by the Will of Allah. For, you are the one who said what means: “The one who sees me in the dream shall see me in awakening”.

In commemorating your Birth we recite your biography, in which, the teachers of the Islamic knowledge learn the methods of how to spread Islam, having realised that you started alone when you revived the call to Islam. You spread it in the Arabian Peninsula after which your iconic Companions continued on your path. While carrying your banner high, they spread Islam further East and West.

Recalling your biography reminds the Muslim nation to adhere to good practices and exhibit good manners. For, you are the one who said: “I was sent to the people to reveal and exhibit all of the good manners and high ethics”.

As we recite your biography we realise that no one will live forever on this earthy life. We learn from this not to become attached to life on earth nor to waste our energies seeking worldly matters as you said: “Stay away from the temptations of this world and you will be accepted by Allah, and be disinterested in what people have (i.e., money and prestige) and the people will love you”.

We ask Allah the Exalted to benefit us from the blessings of commemorating the honourable Mawlid and to gather us with our beloved Prophet in the highest Firdaws. Ameen.
