The Abduction of Douglas Wood is not Representative of the Islamic Religion.

The chairman of Darul-Fatwa the Islamic High Council of Australia his eminence Sheikh Salim Alwan Al-Husainiyy confirmed that the kidnapping of the Australian engineer Douglas Wood (63 years) does not conform to the Islamic ethics and value system. "This act (kidnapping) does not benefit the Muslims of Iraq, nor does it lead to the exit of the Australian troops from Iraq", Sheikh Al-Hasany said in reaction to the latest video footage released by the captors.  "Many Australians have opposed the presence of the Australian troops in Iraq", he added.

He then directed a plea to the abductors to immediately release the hostage, especially given his health conditions. He also reminded them that the Australian engineer had no say in the war in Iraq, and that their acts do not serve the interests of Islam and the world Muslim community. On the contrary, these acts had negative consequences regarding the internal affairs of Iraq and the general affairs of Muslims worldwide.

This plea was directed in accordance with verse 90 in Chapter An-Nahl (The Bee) in the Qur'an which means: "Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and the giving to the kin, and He forbids immorality, acts of evil and outrage. Allah instructs you in order that you may take heed.”
