I thank Allah the Lord of the worlds and I ask Him to raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad, his Al and companions.
Dear brothers in Islam,
To praise Prophet Muhammad in chanting solo or in a group is a good thing that Allah accepts. Such an action is not a bad innovation as some claim.
Praising Prophet Muhammad congregationally has been affirmed in two Hadiths, first of which was narrated by Imam Ahmad in his Musnad from the saying of Anas ibn Malik, that some people from Ethiopia chanted in the Prophet’s Mosque and said in their language: “Muhammad is a good slave of Allah”. When the Prophet asked what they are saying, it was said: they are saying: “Muhammad is a good slave of Allah”.
Praising Prophet Muhammad is a rewardable deed. Allah is the One who ordered us to glorify His Prophet. So by praising and honouring Prophet Muhammad we are obeying Allah. The solo chanting is supported by what Hafidh Ibn Hajar and As-Suyutiyy and others narrated that Al-^Abbas the son of ^Abdulmuttalib, Prophet Muhammad’s uncle said to our dear Prophet: “ I would like to praise you in some verses”. The Prophet said, “Say them, may Allah save your teeth”. The last verse was:
“And when you were born, the earth lit up and the horizons were enlightened by you”.
It is also permissible to use the Duff (Tamborine) when chanting the praises of Prophet Muhammad. Ibn Majah narrated that Anas, ibn Malik said that: “the Prophet of Allah once as he was walking in Al-Madinah some young ladies were beating the Tambourine and chanting: “We are young women from the tribe of An-Najjar and how great it is to have a neighbour like Prophet Muhammad”. Prophet Muhammad replied: “Allah knows that I am pleased with you”. Hafidh al-Busiriyy classified the hadith as sahih.
Several Hadiths revealing the merit of making salawat upon the Prophet have been narrated. Among which, was narrated by An-Nasa’iyy whereby the Prophet peace be upon him said: “Those from my nation who sincerely make salah upon me will be rewarded ten times, their rank will be raised ten levels, will earn ten good deeds and ten bad deeds will be forgiven”.
The Prophet also said in a Hadith narrated by Muslim: “If you hear the caller of adhan, repeat after him then make salah upon me for the one who makes salah upon me, will be rewarded ten times. Then, ask for me to be granted
al-wasilah for it is a rank in Paradise only one slave of Allah can reach and I hope that it is me. The one who asks Allah to grant me al-wasilah, will receive my intercession.
This is the truth about the Chanting and praising the Messenger of Allah. This is the belief of all Muslims from the time of Prophet Muhammad.
Do not pay attention to those who claim otherwise!
If they had a proper understanding of the Holy Qur’an they would know the meaning of the verse in Surat Al-A^raf:
(فَالَّذِينَ ءامَنُواْ بِهِ وَعَزَّرُوهُ)
meaning ‘those who believe in Muhammad and glorify him’ and then it would be enough for them to leave their bad innovation and follow the majority of Muslims in the praising.
Allah has praised his Prophet in the Holy Qur’an better than any other praising, in Surat al-Qalam Allah said:
(وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ)
which means: “Indeed you have great manners”.
We ask Allah to grant us the blessings of praising Prophet Muhammad and gather us in Paradise with all His Prophets Ameen.
