PRESS RELEASE

Monday 19th July 2021

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Due to the significant rise in COVID-19 cases in New South Wales (NSW), the state government has enforced additional health rules and regulations as a preventative measure to limit the spread of COVID-19. These measures include the closure of mosques. This means that during this lockdown, we are required to perform the prayers from home, including the 5-obligatory prayers, the Friday Prayer and Eid prayer.

The message from NSW Health is clear. You are required to have a mask with you every time you leave home, and wear it when you are:

– Indoors except at your own home
– Working outdoors
– In outdoor markets or outdoor shops
– Queuing outdoors eg. For coffee

We at Darulfatwa – the Islamic High Council of Australia urge everyone to abide by NSW health guidelines and to get tested if you are symptomatic or as otherwise advised. We thank all communities for their continued cooperation and support and for working together to suppress this outbreak.

Let us also remember to take advantage of these blessed days i.e. the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, by performing the good deeds such as prayer, fasting, reciting the Quran and praising Allah the exalted.

We encourage you to participate with us via live streaming on our social media pages including Facebook for religious lessons, upcoming Eid and Friday speeches, as well as regular multilingual guidance related to the current situation.

Finally, the Eid prayer can be performed in congregation at home with your household members. We at Darulfatwa Australia, pray to Allah ^Al-Aziz Al-Kareem to alleviate our calamities and hardships. We ask Allah the Almighty in these blessed days to relieve us from this pandemic and grant us all the joys and pleasures of Eid.

Prof. Sheikh Salim Alwan Al-Husayni
Chairman of Darulfatwa – the Islamic High Council of Australia
