                                              Darulfatwa hosts another successful Multicultural Mawlid Concert – Sydney

Under the patronage of Darulfatwa -the Islamic High Council of Australia and in collaboration with a diverse range of organisations and associations the annual Sydney Multicultural Mawlid Concert was held on Sunday 2nd December 2018 at Sydney Sports Centre, Quay Centre – Sydney Olympic Park under the slogan “Muhammad, a guide and more for every era”. The Mawlid concert was attended by Chairman of the Darulfatwa – Professor Sheikh Salim Alwan Al Husainyy, the Hon. Minister Ray Williams – MP Minister for Multiculturalism and Minister for Disability Services, the Hon Michael Daley – MP Member of the Legislative Assembly Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Lynda Jane Voltz, MLC – Shadow Minister for Sport, and Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs, Mr Paul Lynch – MP Shadow Attorney General Member for Liverpool, Shaoquat Moselmani – MLC Opposition Whip in the Legislative Council Mr Jihad DIB – MP Shadow Minister for Education Member for Lakemba, H. E Mr Ibrahim Baroudy – Ambassador of Sudan, H.E Dr Ali Kraishan – Ambassador of Jordon, H.E Dr Izzat  Abdulhadi – The General Delegation of Palestine to Australia, representative for H. E Mr Karim Medrek – Ambassador of Morocco, Mr. Yasser Abid – Consul General of Egypt, Mr Abdul Majeed Yousfani – Consul General of Pakistan, Mr Mayer Dabbagh – Honorary Consul for Syria, M.M. Abdul-Raheem – Consul of Sri Lanka, Mr Ali Mohammed Baqer Witwit – Consul of Iraq, Mrs Zani Mourina –  Consul of Indonesia, Mr Mohamad Khalil Sumeran – Consul of Malyasia, President of the Islamic Charity Projects Association (ICPA) Mr Mohamad Mehio, councillors, community leaders, distinguished sheikhs and imams representing organisations and communities including Lebanese, Iraqi, Syrian, Egyptian, Jordanian, Palestinian, Somalian, Sudanese, Pakistan, Indian, Afghanistan, Turkish, Bosnian, African, Harrar and media representatives.

The official opening was launched by Professor Sheikh Salim Alwan Al Husainyy who welcomed VIP guests to the annual Mawlid Multicultural Concert for 2018 – 1440H. In his opening speech his Eminence highlighted that Darulfatwa – the Islamic High Council of Australia remains a symbol of moderation, peace and justice and that Islam is a religion that fights off violence and rejects extremism. On this note, Darulfatwa issued a media release against the latest violence that occurred in Melbourne by some terrorist groups. As friends, we all get together to celebrate in harmony the occasion of the birth of prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. These words were echoed by guest speakers who also commended Darulfatwa for its contributions to the wider community and stand for moderation.

President of the ICPA Mr Mohamad Mehio spoke about the distinguished and great manners of prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and the strive of Muslims across eras to learn from him and imitate him in his dealings and characteristics. In his speech MP Mr Ray Williams highlighted thanked the many organisations present at the event and emphasised the importance of their role towards social cohesion in today’s society and how they can contribute through Mawlid celebrations like today and to help achieve the government’s commitment towards harmony and peace. The leader of the opposition Michael Daley also thanked Darulfatwa and his eminence Professor sheikh Salim Alwan for taking the lead over the past 20 years in his role in working hard alongside the many organisations to nurture and showcase the values we share of peace, harmony and the many successes of multiculturalism.

The Mawlid concert was opened at 6pm by his eminence Sheikh Ibrahim El-Shafie who welcomed the thousands who attended this special gathering. In His speech his eminence said: “Our Prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him, whom Allah described in the holy Qur’an as being sent as a mercy to the world. He is Muhammad, to whom the hearts long for. He is Muhammad, with whom the souls find its comfort. He is Muhammad, the one when his name is mentioned; the tears of the eyes of those who long for him run down abundantly.  His eminence added “your attendance here today reflects in a small way the world-wide keenness of Muslims to celebrate the commemoration of the Mawlid, each culture adorning their celebrations in their own colour and taste”. This was followed by a glorious recitation of the holy Quran by a young and recent Australian Azhariy graduate from Egypt.

In his following speech Professor Sheikh Salim Alwan Al Husainyy stated: “Muhammad, moderation and the middle path are your teachings and your methodologies. For, you are the one who came forth with the truth, proper guidance, justice, and good advice”. Muhammad the truthful guide. Muhammad the one who possesses eloquent wise speech. You are our role model, O most honoured by Allah. You enlighten our path, O Prophet of Allah. Muhammad, the trees testified to your prophethood. Muhammad, the rocks greeted you. Muhammad, the moon split for you. Muhammad, the dead tree trunk moaned, longing for you. Muhammad, the water gushed out from between your fingers. O my Lord raise his rank and protect his nation from what he fears for it. Following this, his eminence spoke about the permissibility of seeking the blessing of prophet Muhammad’s relics and added “Muhammad, seeking blessings by your traces is a tradition you taught your companions. It was passed down to the preceding Muslims, who passed it to the latter”.

The was followed by an inspiring role play based on a true storing exemplifying the love of prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him titled “The Princess and the Crown” – a play about a young woman who was God-fearing and had a profound love for Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. This was followed by a moving poem about honouring the memory of prophet Muhammad’s birth peace be upon him delivered by Australian community guest his eminence Sheikh Ghanem Jalloul. The night featured fantastic performances by the Muslim Kids and other cultures including Turkish, Malay, Indonesian, African, Bosnian and Pakistani.

Darulfatwa extends its appreciation to all community organisations who came together to make the evening a great success, the 350 plus Mawlid team volunteers and the Muslim community Radio 2MFM staff who participated in the event and provided the live coverage on air and social media.

We ask Allah to unite us on spreading goodness and bestow upon us the blessings of prophet Mohammad peace be upon him.
