Darulfatwa denounces the Melbourne terror attack

Media Release

All praise is due to Allah. May Allah raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad, the man of virtue and justice and the last Messenger of Allah. Verse 90 in Surat an-Nahl in the Qur’an means: “Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and the giving to the kin; and He forbids immorality, acts of evil and outrage. Allah instructs you in order that you may take heed”.

Darulfatwa – the Islamic High Council of Australia and on behalf of all leading representatives, Imams from various communities, Organisations and associations condemns the terror attack which took place on Friday the 9th of November 2018 in Melbourne, Victoria on the hands of a brainwashed extremist reported to have ties to a Melbourne cleric known to police. It is of no surprise that this extremist was allegedly taught by radical, violent extremists falsely attributing themselves to Islam. Islam is clear from brainwashed extremists and from those behind them. Darulfatwa alongside Australian and mainstream Muslims across the world reiterate that these individuals and their devilish acts cannot be branded as Islamic. Doing so will only help their evil cause and empowers their quest to make the ‘ignorant’ and ‘out of touch’ belief that Islam is on the terrorist’s side.

Chairman of Darulfatwa his eminence Dr. Sheikh Salim Alwan Al-Husainyy reinforces that Islam is a religion of moderation and Justice and denounces acts of reprehensible terror. Darulfatwa calls upon local and international communities and the Government to exert all efforts to stop extremism, work hard to eradicate its causes and cease their flow of financial aid. We emphasizes that there is a difference between faithful Muslims and extremist terrorists and there is no relation and justification for this evil phenomenon in Islam. We call all leaders and organisations to work collaboratively and exert all efforts to also help eradicate extreme ideologies and take timely and necessary action against flagged extremists and those who support their acts of evil in any way.

Importantly, it is crucial that Australian politicians not alienate Muslim communities at times when tragedies hit, Muslims are well known to be friendly peaceful and caring citizens within the Australian community. We offer our condolences to the families, relatives and friends affected by this tragedy and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
