Darulfatwa (The Islamic High Council of Australia) calls for cooperation and unity against radicalisation.

Darulfatwa received with a great deal of concern, yesterday’s news about the raids targeting some fanatics and their exposed intent to commit savage acts in Australia.

Darulfatwa and the Muslim community condemn vehemently all such heinous intent and those responsible for them. Islam and the Muslim community reject all unlawful acts and deem such perpetrators as criminal cults whose sole purpose is to provide unrest for the Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

We reiterate that the government is charged with our national security. As such, the government must do everything in its power to re-examine and re-assess the motives of some self-proclaimed religious leaders, who in reality set out only to radicalise the disadvantaged youth and in the process, marginalize the majority who are innocent and productive members of the Muslim community.

Islamic values and principles clearly promote love of good, peace and harmony and an appreciation of a homeland we call Australia. Darulfatwa has been working tirelessly for many years to help our proud Muslim community merge positively within the fabric that makes multicultural Australia what it is today.

We need a comprehensive strategic plan which helps position moderate leaders of the Muslim community to help de-radicalise many of today’s youth. The aim of the strategic plan should be to target the youth who are easily attracted to extremist ideologies, and implement a prevention program that stops the spread of radical ideologies capable of producing people like those who were caught with the intent to kill and behead other Australians.

It is time that our government realised that, for it to start intervening at the point of criminal activity in order to stop extremism, is a high threshold of tolerance. Security management should begin at a lower threshold and at the preventative stages. It should start with identifying groups affiliated with the UN identified terrorist groups and associated with a track record of controversial and immoderate outbursts in Australia.

Such representatives should not be allowed the right to speak publically and with government authority. Their teachings should be monitored within their centres and their centres must be shut down, if necessary.

Freedom of speech laws were first adopted to give a voice to the oppressed and voiceless. Let us not make the innocent citizens bloody victims of that same law that gave them freedom to live.

We remind the government that the safety of all Australians lies in its hands and particularly in the hands of the prime minister whose duty is to protect the innocent from any atrocities.

Equally, it is his duty to protect the rights of all Muslims who should not pay a price of discrimination or hate campaigns against them. Muslims are as much a victim of these horrid doctrines as are non-Muslims.

Darulfatwa supports all actions taken by the Australian authorities to stop any form of terrorism on Australian soil. We call upon the community to fully cooperate and support the government in their efforts to maintain order and to foster a national climate that allows Australian Muslims to develop equally alongside their fellow Australians and become even better assets to Australia.

We thank our government for its efforts thus far and we assure all Australians that we at Darulfatwa are also set in our views of maintaining security and peace for all Australians.
