Darul-Fatwa Australia

Calls for International Cooperation to Counter Extremism

Darul-Fatwa the Islamic High Council of Australia condemns the bomb attacks in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheik early Saturday (local time) that left at least 88 people dead and many more wounded.

Darul-Fatwa takes these odious attacks to be an attack on the Islamic value system. Those attacks which target the security and stability of the Egyptian nation do not serve the interest of the Islamic community, and they do not further its cause.

These copycat acts which have been covertly mobilised around the world cannot but be condemned by the international Muslim community. Such acts are at odds with the very basis of Islamic teachings and morality.

Darul-Fatwa the Islamic High Council of Australia further iterates its complete condemnation of any such terrorist attacks and its commitment to any action which will weed out the root causes of extremism and all forms of indiscriminate violence.

It also calls on the international community to take on its responsibility to intensify the efforts to weed out the sources of extremism, which falsely claim to represent Islam; a world religion.

Darul-Fatwa supports the calls to 'name and shame' extremists and to take the right action against their ideologies and doctrines. These doctrines have been rebutted by the community of traditional Islamic scholars ever since the emergence of these cultic movements on the world scene.

Darul-Fatwa realises that individual action by certain enlightened organisations to counter extremism can be strengthened in an atmosphere of international, regional and national cooperation.
